The Weger Brothers and ST. JOSEF Vita Sana: Together for Personalised Prevention
Jakob and Matthias Weger are brothers, former competitive athletes and filmmakers from Schenna, South Tyrol. Their sporting roots lie in wildwater kayaking and canoe slalom, disciplines they competed in at a high level. Today, they move across a wide range of outdoor sports, from ski and snowboard freeriding to paragliding, kayaking, climbing and mountain biking.
As extreme athletes, the two brothers have spent years exploring the capabilities and limits of the human body: How resilient is the body really? What role do genetic predispositions, recovery and lifestyle play in health and performance? And how can medical knowledge help identify potential risks at an early stage and enable us to take a more active role in shaping our own future?
Genetic screening opens up a new dimension of prevention. Rather than waiting to respond to health challenges, the focus is on gaining an early understanding of our individual biological characteristics. This knowledge makes it possible to make informed decisions and actively support the personal foundations for a healthy, high-performing life in the long term. The shared history of the Weger brothers makes this approach particularly compelling. As brothers, they share not only a genetic connection, but also a passion for sport and first-hand experience of intense physical demands. At the same time, their journey demonstrates that everyone responds differently to training, recovery and external influences. This is precisely where the value of genetic screening lies: it provides personal insights into the factors that are particularly relevant to our individual health, creating a tailored foundation for making informed choices – both today and in the future.
Matthias Weger, born in 1996, has won three European Championship titles in extreme kayaking and finished third at a World Championship. Today, his main focus includes ski freeriding, kayaking, paragliding and developing documentary film projects.
“I don’t just head off on a tour and hope for the best. I like to know what’s coming. I’m the same when it comes to my body and my health.”
Jakob Weger, born in 1998, became U23 World Champion in Olympic canoe slalom in 2018. Today, his main sporting focus is on snowboard freeriding and paragliding.
“With Vita Sana, I’m gaining a deeper understanding of my body. Knowing what my genes reveal about my individual predispositions allows me to take a more informed and personalised approach to my health and performance.”
Together, the Weger Brothers have won the GoPro Million Dollar Challenge four times. With “Alpine Worlds,” they have created their own documentary series, exploring alpine adventures, sporting limits, and the relationship between people and nature. In January 2026, the Austrian broadcaster ServusTV featured the brothers in a 47-minute episode of its outdoor series Bergwelten, titled “Zwei Brüder am Limit – Ein Winter mit Jakob und Matthias Weger.” Their films “22 HØURS,” “Fathom” and “The Red Face Zone” have been screened in more than 500 cinemas.
